An English town built a £50 million bridge, then ran out of money for the road
Spalding, United Kingdom
ReportedDear Mamdani, Spalding in Lincolnshire wanted a relief road. It started with the bridge, which seems sensible, as bridges are the hard part.
The bridge was finished in October 2024, at a cost of £50 million. The council has since said £33 million is missing to finish the road that connects to it. It is hoping developers will help.
Completion is not expected before 2030. Until then, the town has a very expensive place to stand and look at fields.
