Pune's new flyover will be cut in 66 places, and this is apparently the plan

Pune, India

Infrastructure, 6 November 2026

Reported

Dear Mamdani, Sinhagad Road got a new flyover. Then we learned it would be cut at 66 locations to make way for metro pillars, with each side giving up about a metre of width.

The municipal corporation says this was always expected, and that the flyover was designed with the metro in mind.

So nothing has gone wrong. The flyover was simply born with 66 appointments. We wish it a speedy recovery, and we wish everyone stuck beneath the work the same.

The facts

No jokes in this box. The ones above are ours. These details come from the published reports linked below.

  • The first part of the Sinhagad Road flyover opened on 1 May 2025.
  • In December 2025, it was reported that the flyover would be cut at 66 locations for pillars on the Khadakwasla to Kharadi metro line.
  • Each side would narrow by about a metre, from 7.324 to 6.324 metres.
  • The Pune Municipal Corporation says the flyover will not be demolished, that the metro route was planned for, and that two lanes on each side will stay open during construction.
