Chakan's road repair returned the road to its original ingredients
Dear Mamdani, some internal roads at Chakan's industrial estate were resurfaced in April and May 2024. They then met a monsoon, an event that took everyone by surprise, as it has every year.
The repair was crushed stone and sand, spread over the damage. In effect, the road was returned to its original ingredients.
Two-wheelers skidded on the gravel, and heavy vehicles got punctures, both at no extra charge.
We would like to thank the contractor for this rare look at how a road is made.
The facts
- On 26 December 2024, The Bridge Chronicle reported that internal roads in Chakan MIDC Phase II needed repairs about six months after being asphalted.
- Contractors spread crushed stone and sand over the damage, which the report called a temporary fix. It said two-wheelers often skidded, and punctures were becoming common for heavy vehicles.
- An MIDC deputy engineer attributed some of the damage to standing water during the rains, and said the contractor had been told to carry out immediate repairs.
