Half an hour of rain turned Hinjewadi's IT park into a water park

Hinjewadi, India

Infrastructure, 6 November 2026

Reported

Dear Mamdani, Hinjewadi is home to hundreds of technology companies. In June 2025, about half an hour of rain left its roads under knee-deep water.

A local MLA reminded everyone that this was supposed to be an IT park, not a water park, and suggested boats. We support this. At last, a Hinjewadi commute with a view.

An employees' forum then inspected the drains, and found them full of mud, weeds, construction debris and metro materials.

So the drains do exist. They are just blocked on dependencies.

The facts

No jokes in this box. The ones above are ours. These details come from the published reports linked below.

  • On 9 June 2025, Punekar News reported that about half an hour of rain had flooded the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, with vehicles wading through knee-deep water.
  • NCP MLA Rohit Pawar said: "This is not a water park, it's supposed to be an IT park." He urged the MIDC to consider boating services.
  • The Forum for IT Employees said its inspection found drains blocked by mud, weeds, construction debris and materials from metro work.
