Signal No. HM-RE014
Make It Make Sense
The Hinjewadi metro went through more deadlines than a software release
Dear Mamdani, the Hinjewadi metro was due by March 2025. Then it was March 2026. Then 30 June. Then 15 July, "at max".
It opened in November 2026, with 17 of its 23 stations. The Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar line opened without the Shivajinagar station. It does reach the area, at the District Court, which seems the right place to end up after all this.
Hinjewadi knows this process well. Ship phase one. Call the rest a roadmap. Tell the client that it's on a superfast track.
The facts
- Swarajya reported that the 23-km project was originally due by March 2025 and had missed multiple deadlines.
- In November 2025, officials claimed full operations by March 2026. In June 2026, the authority's commissioner moved the first phase from 30 June to "15th July at max".
- Reported reasons for delay include construction in dense areas, a shortage of skilled workers, disrupted supply of components, an underground water leak and unfinished stations.
- Passenger services were due to start on 4 November 2026, with 17 of 23 stations open. The remaining six, including Shivajinagar, were to follow in stages. The first phase ends at District Court.
